Palakkad: Shrishankar has received warm welcome as he reached home after winning gold in the long jump with a record distance of 8.20 meter in the National Open Athletics. His father and coach, S Murali was proud of his son at his arrival.
“8 meter was my dream achievement. My next aim is Olympic finals. If the present form is to be continued, the chances for Olympic medal are high. Hereafter, my practices will be for this goal,” said Shrishankar.
His mother KS Bijimol was confident that he would achieve the distance of 8 meter this time. The Palakkad synthetic track has limitations to accommodate skilled athletes like Shrishankar. So Shrishankar has extended the 8 meter jumping pit to 9 meter at his own expenses. The local MLA and sports counsel have also promised all support for him.
Shrishankar has created a record in his age group and the distance in the event. He has rewritten the record of 8.19 meter by Angit Sharma.
19-year-old Shrishankar has also created world record in junior category.
