Kerala overall champs in National School Athletic Meet; Ancy Sojan star of the meet
Sangrur (Punjab) : Kerala bagged the overall championship at the National School Athletic Meet held here with the girls grabbing the limelight in most of the events. Kerala was placed on top with 273 points followed by Maharashtra (247 points) and Haryana in the third place with 241 points.
The girls team bagged most of the medals at the event pushing Kerala to the top spot. Kerala girls team topped the chart with 101 points, Tamil Nadu in second spot with 61 points and Haryana with 55 points in third place. In the boys category, Maharashtra was on top with 68 points, Kerala was placed second with 58 points and Haryana at 52 points in third place.
Kerala’s Ancy Sojan was adjudged the best athlete in the girls category with 4 gold medals. In the boys category, Maharashtra’s Shirse Tejas was named the best athlete. Ancy Sojan bagged 3 individual golds and one team gold. The three golds of Ancy were won in 100m, 200 metre and in long jump event where she broke the meet record. On Sunday morning, Ancy bagged her 4th gold in the 4x100 metre relay event and added the 4 golds to her kitty.
On Saturday alone, Kerala bagged 4 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze.
