Kozhikode: Tai Bamhane, the wonder girl of Maharashtra, has completed her successful run in the National School Athletics Championship with a meet record and double gold. She won gold in 600 m race in sub junior category with a clear majority. C Chanthini of Kerala, who bagged silver, finished in a difference of around four seconds.

Tai, who is coming from the district of Kavita Rawat, had won gold in 400 m earlier.

She broke the record of 1:35.67 set by her friend and 'didi' Anjana Thamke in 2011, and set a new one of 1:34.11. Vijendar Singh, coach of Kavita and Anjana, trains Tai. And she is practising on the same ground.

Tai hails from a tribal village in Nasic district. Baba Bahmane and Hira are her parents. She is now studying in Bhonsle Military School in Nasik for the sake of athletic coaching. It is far from her home and her parents have no idea their daughter is scaling new heights.

Her coaches believe Tai has a glorious future ahead of her. They even dream of an Olympic medal.
