Perambra: As Jinson Johnson is set to make his debut at the Olympic Games on Friday, Chakkittapara village in Kozhikode is waiting with bated breath. His parents Shailaja and Johnson, with prayers on their lips, are keenly following all news from Rio. Coach K M Peter who introduced Jinson to athletics also pins high hopes on him.

Jinson is participating in 800 m race. The race is scheduled for 6.30 PM on Friday. "Jinson calls everyday. He is undergoing rigorous practice session," said Johnson.

Meanwhile, many flex boards have come up in Chakkittapara wishing Jinson the best. The students of St Antony's LP School even took out a rally.

Jinson qualified for Rio Olympics by clocking 1:45:98 minutes in the Indian Grand Prix Athletics Meet held in Bengaluru. He had missed the chance by micro seconds in the qualifying round in June. In Bengaluru, he recorded the second best timing of an Indian athlete in 800 race. Jinson was plagued by injuries last year as he took part in a number of tournaments. He regained health and won an Olympic berth as a result of hard work.
