Jamshedpur leading Goa 1-0 at half time
Jamshedpur FC were leading FC Goa 1-0 and at half time in the Indian Super League (ISL) match at the Tilak Maidan Stadium in Vasco on Wednesday. Stephen Eze scored the only goal in the 33rd minute from an Aitor Monroy free kick.
Jamshedpur were eager to extend their six-match unbeaten run while Goa were trying to return to winning ways following consecutive losses. Owen Coyle and Juan Ferrando lined up Jamshedpur and Goa in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
Jamshedpur took the game by the scuff of the neck while Goa looked sluggish. Goa were lucky not to concede in the 3rd minute. Princeton Rebello lost the ball to the pressure of Nerijus Valskis. James Donachie put in a tackle and Valskis went down. The ball fell to Aniket Jadhav, who put in a cross. But it was taken care of by Alexander Jesuraj.
In the 11th minute, Stephen Eze got the ball and was under pressure from Jorge Mendoza. The Jamshedpur centre back’s attempted pass to Peter Hartley was intercepted by Igor Angulo. The forward’s cross was collected by TP Rehenesh.
Both teams were looking to take the initiative and make things happen. But neither were clinical in the final third.
In the 33rd minute, Goa had a penalty shout turned down. Igor Angulo got the ball on the edge of the Jamshedpur penalty box and dashed forward. Stephen Eze followed him and put in a superb tackle. Igor Angulo goes down and claims a penalty but the referee rightfully waved it away.
Stephen Eze scored the opening goal seconds later. Aitor Monroy whipped in a good free kick and the Jamshedpur centre back stretched his right leg acrobatically and connected with the heel of the boot at the far post to make it 1-0.
The first half ended with Jamshedpur leading.
