Jamshedpur defeats Odisha 1-0 to move up the ISL table
Jamshedpur FC defeated Odisha FC 1-0 in the Indian Super League (ISL) at the GMC Stadium in Bambolim on Monday. Mohammad Mobashir scored the only goal in the 41st minute.
Both Stuart Baxter and Owen Coyle deployed Odisha and Jamshedpur in a 4-4-2 formation. Jamshedpur started the game strongly and took the game to Odisha. They continuously attacked Odisha's left back, Rakesh Pradhan.
However, Odisha had the first real chance of the game in the 26th minute. Paul Ramfangzauva played a delicate through ball for Jerry Mawihmingthanga in the Jamshedpur penalty area. Jerry nutmegs the first defender but Narender Gahlot got a touch on the ball. It rolled for Manuel Onwu in the box but the striker couldn’t sort his feet out. In the end, the ball is kicked over the crossbar by TP Rehenesh from down on the ground for a corner.
Farukh Choudhary missed a good chance in the 33rd minute. Nerijus Valskis got the ball in the right channel outside the box. He flicked it ball for Seiminlen Doungel, who had made an overlapping run on the right flank. Doungel's low cross found Farukh Choudhary in the middle of the box. Sadly, Choudhary's strike was over the crossbar.
A brilliant cut-back from @Seiminlen_9 but @choudharyfar8 badly miscues his shot 🙆♂️— Indian Super League (@IndSuperLeague) February 1, 2021

Jamshedpur took the lead in the 41st minute as Mohammad Mobashir's early cross sneaked into the back of the net. Mobashir got the ball just outside the right side of the box. He crossed it early into the box. Nerijus Valskis, who was playing on the shoulder of the last defender, went in to put the ball into the back of the net but couldn’t get a touch. However, the Lithuanian striker’s movement confused Odisha goalkeeper Arshdeep Singh. The ball sneaked into the back of the net. Arshdeep Singh should have done better.
The story was more or less the same in the second half.
In the 72nd minute, Arshdeep Singh saved Farukh Choudhary's shot to keep Odisha in the match. Seiminlen Doungel was played into the right side of the box by Nerijus Valskis. Doungel’s low cross found Farukh Choudhary at the far post. Arshdeep Singh charged off his line to close down Choudhary and block his effort. The Jamshedpur forward disappointed again.
Odisha had a penalty shout turned down in the 82nd minute. Jerry Mawihmingthanga slipped the ball to Diego Mauricio on the left side of the box. He is tripped over by Jamshedpur goalkeeper TP Rehenesh. However, the referee signalled for a corner and not a penalty. Replays showed that the keeper had not made contact with the ball. It should have been a penalty.
Farukh Choudhary’s curling shot hit the bottom of the post in injury time. The result moved Jamshedpur up to 6th with 18 points from 15 games. Odisha remains rooted to the bottom spot with only 8 points from 14 games.
