Kannur: The inaugural programmes of Kannur International Airport will commence at 6 in the morning on Sunday. The passengers of the first flight will receive a warm welcome at the premises of Vayanthode Mattannur Cooperative Bank.

The passengers will be taken to the terminal building by 6.30 am. Ministers and special guests led by minister EP Jayarajan will welcome them in front of the departure hall. Boarding pass will be given at check-in counter at 7.15 am. The cultural programmes will begin at the main stage by 7.30 am. Ramachandran Kadannappally, minister for ports and museum, will inaugurate the VIP lounge in the departure area at 7.45 am and transport minister AK Saseendran will inaugurate the ATM at 7.55 am.

At 8.05 am, health minister KK Shailaja will inaugurate the foreign exchange counter. Minister for industries EP Jayarajan will unveil the installation of Malabar Handloom at International Security Hold at 8.15 am. Revenue minister E Chandrasekharan will inaugurate Food and Beverages Services at 8.25 am.

At 8.35 am, the ministers will distribute gifts to the passengers at the boarding gate. At 9 am, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan will receive guard of honour from CISF and will hoist the flag near service block at 9.15 am. Chief minister, union ministers and other ministers will jointly light the lamp at the departure hall at 9.30 am.

The inaugural flight will be jointly flagged off at 9.55 am by the chief minister and union minister for civil aviation Suresh Prabhu. The inaugural ceremony will begin at 10 am on the main stage.

Chief secretary Tom Jose will deliver the welcome speech. KIAL MD V Thulasidas will present the project. Keynote address will be delivered by secretary for civil aviation Kamal Nayan Choubey.

Union minister for civil aviation will be the chief guest of the programme. Chief minister will deliver inaugural address and unveil the plaque. Ministers AK Saseendran, E Chandrasekharan and Ramachandran Kadannappally will inaugurate the e-auto rickshaw service, renewed website and the mobile app respectively.

The representatives of Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) will hand over the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certificate for the airport to minister K K Shailaja. A 3D video exhibition of the cargo complex, administration block, CISF accommodation and landscaping will also be conducted.
