Health Minister K K Shailaja demands virology lab, AIIMS for Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram: Health minister K K Shailaja, who met union health minister Harsh Vardhan in Delhi on Friday, said that she has requested for an All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Kerala, a long-established demand of the state.
The help to establish a BSL-3 level virology lab in Kozhikode was raised to the Centre earlier. And permission regarding this was granted in May 2019. But, the virology lab costs approximately Rs 8 crore. Thus, a sophisticated regional lab was requested to the Centre. Besides this, developments regarding Nipah outbreak was also discussed with the union minister, said Shailaja.
Further, the health minister said that she also held discussion with union minister Smriti Irani, minister of women and child development. The union minister has promised the support for the functioning of smart anganwadis in the state.
