Thiruvananthapuram - KS Sabarinadhan MLA, Mohammed Hanish IAS and advocate Najma Thabsheera shared various perspectives on women and key role positions in a discussion on an exclusive political party for women at Mathrubhumi International Festival of Letters (MBIFL) in Kanakakkunnu Palace here on Thursday.
Pravathy J Nath was the moderator of the session.
Sabarinadhan mentioned that he always wanted women to share equal status as men. The political party to which he belongs is planning for more inclusion of women, he said. He urged that more women should volunteer to get involved in political affairs and take up leadership positions. His factual presentation stated that women have turned more participative in casting their votes. He is hopeful that this will lead to progressive actions thereby in the equal participation of women in all fields.
Advocate Najma was sceptical that the topic had been in discussion for years and still hasn't reached any conclusion. She said that women need to be given opportunities to participate and that a political party exclusively for women isn't appreciated as then it will turn into a faction again.
"Women should come forward by being part of force groups and realise their potential to move forward to higher roles," she said.
Mohammed Hanish IAS stated that the social, cultural and religious ethos led to gender differences in the roles. The present social matrix also calls for a change and it remains a target to be achieved, he noted.
The session concluded with the hope that there would be more women participating in active social and political life.
