Mathrubhumi daily which heralded the social, cultural and political life of the country will bring its curtain down on centenary celebrations with a grand ceremony on Saturday. The centenary celebrations that commenced on March 18, 2022, will be concluded at the ceremony at CIAL convention centre near Kochi International Airport.
Mathrubhumi will have new beginnings with the closing ceremony of 100th-anniversary celebrations. Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the ceremony in which union minister Anurag Thakur will also participate. Ministers K Rajan, P Rajeev, Opposition leader VD Satheesan, writer C Radhakrishnan, MPs Benny Behanan, Jose K Mani, Jeby Mather and MLA Anwar Sadat will attend the event which will be presided over by Mathrubhumi managing director MV Shreyams Kumar.
In the inaugural ceremony held a year back, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Mathrubhumi as a prominent institution that helped to amass the public against the colonialists.
As a part of its centenary celebrations, Mathrubhumi paid tribute to Malayalam and literature by organising the fourth edition of the Festival of Letters in full grandeur. Nobel laureate Abdulrazak Gurnah, Jnanpith Award winner MT Vasudevan Nair and numerous acclaimed literary figures attended the literature festival as Mathrubhumi’s honourable delegates.
