With a smile on her face, Anaina Pradeep was preparing to get on the stage for the high school level Mohiniyattam competition. This young dancer has been carrying the hopes of a whole family on her shoulders while participating in the 61st Kerala School Kalolsavam.

A ninth-standard student of Saraswathi Vidya Mandir in Nanminda, Anaina got to perform at the 61st Kerala State Kalolsavam after filing an appeal. This Balussery native had bagged the second position at the district school youth festival.

"Anaina'a father used to take her everywhere. But since he was diagnosed with cancer, she has been feeling down," her mother Bindu said.

Currently, Anaina is waiting for the court order to participate in Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam competitions.

"She could not perform Bharatanatyam in the district due to some technical issues with the music. We are hoping that she will be able to perform Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam too. We will confirm it with the court order by this evening," her mother said.

Anaina is learning Mohiniyattam from Pramod Das. Her dance teachers have been giving her full support to achieve her dreams in the state kalolsavam.

“The teachers charge only a small amount from Anaina," added her mother.

Savitha, a native of Thalassery, has been stitching her costume for the dance programmes.

"She (Savitha) helps us out by stitching Anaina’s Kuchipudi, Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam costumes for free," Bindu said.

"Anaina is a brilliant dancer and also does well in studies," class teacher Sreeja complimented her.

Speaking to Mathrubhumi.com ahead of her performance, Anaina said, " I was scared at first, but now I am confident that I can perform well on stage."

Anaina, who started her dancing lessons at first standard, has been teaching classical dance to two children.
