Retain dress code at Padmanabhaswamy temple: HC
Kochi: Indicating that the ban on wearing churidar inside the Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple in Thiruvananthapuram will continue, the High Court ruled that decision of the Tantri (Chief Priest) regarding the temple dress code will be final.
Hearing a group of petitions relating to the restriction on churidars and salwars inside the temple, the court observed that the Executive Officer do not have the authority to make changes to religious customs.
The Temple Administration was of the view that wearing churidar inside the temple was against the religious customs. Some of the Hindu outfits also supported the view. After the Executive Officer issued an order allowing churidar-clad women to enter the temple recently, a few women had gained entry with the dress.
The Executive Officer said he accepts the High Court order on the matter. However, the petitioner who sought lifting of the dress code, said she will appeal the Supreme Court against the ruling.
