Youth finds time to collect plastic waste from Parayanchal canal in Cherthala
Cherthala: Sabeesh has set aside an hour per day for cleaning Parayanchal canal. Three weeks after, he got several sacks full of plastic bottles. Parayanchal, which is connected to Vembanad Lake, is the main water body of Manaveli, 20th Ward in Thanneermukkam Grama Panchayat. The canal, which has been unprotected for years, is littered with plastic bottles.
R Sabeesh, a native of Manaveli runs a parallel educational institution called Rama Varma College in Cherthala. Three decades ago, a rutted elephant was shot dead by police in this canal, hence it is called ‘Aana chaal’.
District Panchayat President KG Rajeshwari, Member R. Riyas, Literacy Mission District Co-ordinator K V Ratheesh also extended support to Sabeesh.
