Winner of Rs 6 cr worth jackpot gifts Rs 1 lakh to lottery seller in Kochi
Piravom: A lottery seller woman, who honestly delivered a jackpot worth Rs 6 crore to the person who booked the ticket over the phone, has received Rs 1 lakh as gift from the winner. PK Chandran, a native of Aluva, won the jackpot for the lottery ticket which he booked by assuring lottery seller Smija that money will be paid later.
Chandran told that he had offered an amount as a gift earlier too, but Smija declined it saying that it was only her job and the reward for her work has already been received. The bumper prize money of Rs 6 crore was received in August. But Chandran and family were infected with Covid and he could deliver the gift only now.
Smija had already received a commission of Rs 51 lakh in August. Her shop near Rajagiri college and her house were renovated with this amount. The remaining amount was deposited in the bank. Chandran added that she was not ready to accept the gift but he insisted and kept the amount in her vehicle.
When a few tickets were left unsold, Smija had phoned Chandran and some people who used to buy lottery from her regularly. Chandran asked her to keep ticket number 6142 for him and promised that he will clear the payment when he meets her.
The next day, Smija was informed that the lottery in her possession won the first prize. After identifying that it was Chandran’s lottery ticket, Smija rushed to his house and handed over the ticket to him after receiving the ticket price of Rs 200.
“Chandran had already offered me the amount. Last day, he invited me to his house and gave me Rs 1 lakh as a gift. The next day I went to the treasury and transferred the amount to Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF). Everyone had been asking me what did Chandran gave as a reward. That's why I want to inform everyone about accepting this gift," Smija said.
Smija is residing at Pattimattom along with her husband Rajeswaran who is also a lottery seller. She buys lottery tickets from Bhagyalakshmi agency in Pattimattom.
