Wild jumbo saved from well after over 6-hr-long rescue mission in Athirappilly
Athirappilly: After six hours and 30 minutes of long rescue mission, a wild elephant which fell into a well on the compound of a private resort here was taken out. The rescue efforts using the excavator started on Monday by 6.30 pm and was completed at 12.30 the next morning.
The 40 feet deep well was levelled upto 20 feet and then a deep channel was dug in the rest of the 20 feet depth to rescue the elephant. The jumbo was given pieces of jackfruit and reeds when it was trapped in the well.
The elephant fell into the well after it stepped onto the slabs that covered the well on Sunday night. The employee of the resort felt the smell of elephant when he came by on Monday afternoon. He searched the premises and found that a slab on the well was missing.
He spotted the jumbo when looked into the well. The man informed the forest guard immediately. The rescue mission was led by Vazhachal DFO S. V. Vinod and Charpa Range Officer Muhammed Rafi.
