When the two legends met
Alappuzha: When veteran communist leader VS Achuthanandan visited KR Gowri Amma, the 100-year-old communist leader, she was curious to know who is the eldest among them.
“Me or Achuthanandan, who is the eldest,” asked Gowri Amma. VS burst out laughing after hearing this question.
“Gowri Amma is the eldest,” he replied and giggled.
When the two legends met after a long time, they cracked jokes and made the meeting a memorable one. In the 20-minute-long conversation, they cherished their memories related to the communist party.
VS Achuthandandan accompanied by his son Arun Kumar visited Gowri Amma to greet her on 100th birthday.
VS failed to attend the birth centenary celebrations of Gowri Amma due to physical ailments. He was scheduled as the chief guest of the event.
When VS informed her about his visit, Gowri Amma stated that there is no ‘Sadya’ to treat him. But she had arranged birthday special sweets to VS Achuthanandan.
She asked the gunman to arrange something for the guests. Within minutes someone took ‘Ladu’ and ‘cake’ from the kitchen to treat them.
Forgetting all physical ailments at the age of 96, VS tasted a ‘Ladu’.
While interacting with VS, Gowri Amma also expressed her disappointment over not assuming the post of Kerala Chief Minister.
“I boasted on to become Kerala chief minister, but VS was elected as chief minister,” said Gowri Amma.
VS laughed out loud over her complaint. Responding to Gowri Amma, Achuthanandan’s son corrected that VS did not replace Gowri Amma during that period.
“I solemnised your marriage. You looked so handsome as a young man,” Gowri Amma told VS recollecting memories.
VS Achuthanandan visited her when he arrived in Kuttanad to attend a programme of Administrative Reform Commission.
“I am so glad to meet Gowri Amma after a long time,” said VS while leaving her house.
