When Susmesh Chandroth found MT’s photo in Kolkata bookshop...
Popular Malayalam author Susmesh Chandroth has shared the ecstasy of finding legendary writer M T Vasudevan Nair’s photo at a bookshop in Kolkata.
In a Facebook post, Susmesh says he visited the Oxford Book Store in Kolkata’s Park Street the other day.
“Even though I visit this place often, I never stepped into cafeteria on the first floor of the building. I would go through the new collection and pick those that attract my attention,” he says.
“Yesterday, I climbed the stairs to cafeteria. I saw people sitting around tables sipping coffee and reading books. Black and white photos on the walls greeted me. Among the photographs of noted Bengali writers and other language authors, there was M T Vasudevan Nair sitting atop a photograph of Satyajit Ray looking though his camera lens,” narrates Susmesh.
“In Bengal, Rabindranath Tagore, Swami Vivekanada and Satyajit Ray are unavoidable wall adorations. But MT? It wasn’t a surprise but a moment of pride,” he adds.
