This 22-year-old BEd student did not have any opponents to the post of panchayat president. Paramban Mithuna was appointed to the reserved post of panchayat president unopposed. Mithuna would be the youngest panchayat president in the state to occupy the chair.
Mithuna was elected as a Muslim League candidate from the 1st ward Kozzhipuram of Pallikkal panchayat of Malappuram. She had contested in the ST reserved ward which is a UDF stronghold. Mithuna won by a margin of 284 votes against an Independent candidate under the LDF. As the post of the panchayat president was reserved for a ST woman. Mithuna was appointed unopposed.
Mithuna, a BEd student of Bhavans college in Ramanattukara, has one-and-half-years to complete the course. As she is getting ready to occupy the president’s chair, she has no intention to discontinue or extend her studies. She has decided to take both together. Mithuna said the panchayat rule is only for 5 years but her studies will remain life-long. Her colleagues and faculty have offered help to Mithuna.
Mituna used to take part in the MSF campaign during her college days at Kondotty EMEI college. Her father is Shanmughan who works in a bus, Mini is her mother and Mithusha her sister.
