Wedding to take place in hospital ward as groom tests Covid positive in Alappuzha
Ambalappuzha (Alappuzha): In a different move, a wedding will take place in the special room of Covid ward at Alappuzha medical college on Sunday. As the groom was diagnosed with Covid, the bride and groom will be wearing PPE kit during the ceremony. After the marriage, bride will return to relative’s house while the groom will continue in the Covid ward.
Kainakari native Sarath Mon and Thekkanaryad native Abhirami will be entering wedlock in a very different ceremony due to the Covid crisis. The families decided to arrange the ceremony at Covid ward, as the groom and his mother tested positive for Covid a few days before the wedding. However, they decided to conduct the ritual on the scheduled day and time.
Sarath who works in Qatar is son of N Sasidharan, SNDP Yogam secretary in Pallathuruthi, and Jijimol. Abhirami is daughter of Suji and Kusumam. Though their wedding was fixed over a year ago, Sarath could not come from Qatar due to Covid restrictions. Finally, he came home on March 22. He stayed in quarantine for 10 days and ensured that he was Covid negative.
As per the government instruction, the families reduced the number of invitees to 75. Meanwhile, Sarath and his mother started having breathing trouble on Wednesday evening. They went to a private hospital in Thathampally and were tested Covid positive. Thus they were admitted to the Covid ward at the medical college hospital.
LDF candidate in Kuttanad Thomas K Thomas, NCP district secretary P Sunny and SNDP managing committee member Shaji Gopalan initiated the moved to hold the wedding at hospital. Collector A Alexander and hospital superintendent Dr R V Ramlal granted permission for the ceremony.
Only Sarath, mother Jijimol, Abhirami and her uncle will take part in the ritual wearing PPE kits. After the ceremony, Abhirami will return to her aunt’s house. Sarath’s father, sisters and grandmother are quarantined at home. The bride and groom will start their life together after Sarath turns Covid negative and completes quarantine.
