Wayanad man makes sculpture from coffee wood; now working on 'Corona Swamy'
Ambalavayal (Wayanad): Bharathan hailing from Ambalavayal is all busy making useless coffee wood into beautiful sculptures. He started the art work during lockdown after losing his job in Karnataka.
Bharathan engages in the art work at his house in Karachal. His friends continue to deliver him wood required for sculpture. Within four months, he managed to make about 30 items using wood.
The sculptures are carved first and then polished neatly. He made figures of flowers, animals and other shapes using coffee wood and in a short time, he started making a living from it.
A carpenter by profession, Bharathan was engaging in sculpture for the first time. As it became a success, he decided to focus on this field.
Since craft works have huge demand, he expects more customers would approach him for wood sculpture. Currently, Bharathan is busy making a new figure named 'Corona Swamy'.
