Chennai: Two persons who were in search of treasure as instructed by a Malayali sorcerer died here on Monday. Thoothukudy Tiruvallur colony natives Raghupathy (47) and Nirmal Ganapathy (19) died after inhaling poisonous gas while they were digging up the ground to find treasure.
The sorcerer had told Muthayya and family that a treasurer is hidden deep in the backyard of their house. Believing the words, Muthayya’s sons had been digging in the ground to find it with help of some locals for past six months. The pit is now 50 feet deep.
As it rained the other day, the pit was filled with water. The family used motor to pump out the water. Following this Raghupathy and Ganapathy entered the pit. They were later found unconscious inside the pit. Though both were taken to hospital immediately, they couldn’t be saved.
Doctors confirmed the death was due to inhaling poisonous gas.
Muthayya’s sons Sivamalai and Sivavelan, who also entered the pit, have been admitted to Palayamkotta medical college in critical condition.
Skull and other materials used for black magic were found from the premises of Muthayya’s house. The probe team led by Sathankulam DSP Godwin Jagadeesh suspect human sacrifice. The search for the Malayali sorcerer is underway.
