Two buses get same time slot due to clerical mistake; owner's 11-yr-long struggle continues
Thrissur: It has been 11 years since the Transport Department allotted same time slot for two buses operating services in the Irinjalakkuda-Thriprayar route. The officials have been replying to the requests of the bus owner that they will consider allotting different time slot to one of the buses. But no action was has been initiated yet.
64-year-old Mohanan, owner of ‘Nimmi Mol’ bus, keep visiting the government offices for changing the same time slot of his two buses that conduct servic ein the same route. He had given complaint to many officials including the RTO and RTO chairman (collector) over the issue. He submitted his request to the district rural police superintendent, on October 21.
Ending his years long expat life, Mohanan bought two buses that conduct service in Irinjalakuda-Thriprayar route in 2000. Till 2010, the buses conducted services in a gap of 10 minutes in the same route. But the two buses were allotted same time slot when the service time was rescheduled in July 2010. When Mohanan pointed this out, the officials admitted that it was a clerical mistake and that it would be rectified soon.
However even after many years, new service time was not issued. When the RTO gave him verbal permission to operate service according to the previous schedule, Mohanan resumed the service accordingly. But the joint RTOs and inspectors intervened and he had to pay a fine of Rs 7500 twice. If a fine is charged against him once more, the permit of the bus will be cancelled.
Mohanan has invested all the money he earned during the 20 years of expatriate life in Bahrain and Iraq, on the buses. The huge fine along with the distress caused by the Covid lockdown also haunt him.
