Tusker decides to take relaxing bath in river; Mahouts at their wits’ end
Cheruthuruthy: When tusker Pananchery Paramu alias Adatt Paramu decided have a bath in the river to his heart’s content, the mahouts and locals remained mute spectators.
The elephant was brought to river Bharathappuzha on Wednesday, and the sight of elephant bathing in river attracted many locals. But when he was taken for bath on the second day by 11 am, it turned out to be a hard task for the mahouts.
The tusker decided to cool himself down in the river for a few more hours. When the mahouts instructed him to get out of the water, the elephant refused to obey and stood in the middle of the river.
Though the mahouts tried to pacify him, the tusker did not pay heed. When one of the mahouts held onto the chain of the elephant, he turned aggressive and moved deep into the river. The mahouts had a narrow escape from this move.
Later, they brought coconut fronds to lure the elephant. On seeing the food, the jumbo slowly moved towards the bank. But after having a frond, it stood firm on the river. Finally, after five hours long effort, the tusker was made to get back to the land.
As people crowded the bridge to watch the elephant being tamed, it led to traffic block on the road. The block was dissolved after police arrived at the scene.
