Tuskar Triprayar Ramachandran dies at 71
Thrissur: Triprayar Ramachandran, the elephant which was one of the popular elephants paraded by Paramekkavu temple for Thrissur Pooram, died here on Saturday midnight. It is reported that the 71 year-old tusker owned by Cochin Devaswom Board died around 12.30 Saturday midnight.
As Ramachandran was calm, Paramekkavu temple used to parade it during the fireworks for the last 30 years.
After suffering from ailments, Ramachandran was not paraded for the pooram in 2016.
The tusker was an inevitable part of all the rituals in Arattupuzha Pooram, Peruvanam Pooram and Kuttanellur Pooram. Apart from these temple festvals, it used to attract the elephant lovers in the temple festivals at Kiraloor temple, Pazhayannur temple and Mundathikode Pathirikottukavu temple.
Nayarambalam Kaithavalappil KG Bhaskaran offered the elephant at the age of 5 to Triprayar temple.
The elephant was under treatment since 2017 after suffering from a disease on the right leg. Due to this, taking the elephant outside the district was strictly banned. It is learned that the elephant was too weak for the last five days.
Its last rites were performed at Kodanadu on Sunday.
