Tribal children struggle to attend online classes due to lack of facilities
Idukki: The students from most of the tribal hamlets in the state still have no access to online learning facilities even after weeks of implementation of online classes. The four children of Beenu and Seetha residing in Thottappura here are struggling to attend online classes as they have no access to these facilities.
The couple has five children. One of them is awaiting result of SSLC examination. Two children are studying in class four in Peerumedu government school. Others are studying in class 3 and class 2 respectively The family was living inside a shed in the forest.
However, they were later rehabilitated to a forest department building in Thottapura after their shed was destroyed by a wild elephant. They have been living here for three years.
There is no electricity in the shelter home. Although the authorities promised electricity connection to them, no action has been taken so far. The children’s education has been halted as they do not have smart phones.
They said that though they have been trying to get a house of their own, authorities are only giving them empty promises.
