Trapped by Google Map, lorries get stuck on Attapadi ghat road
Agali: A heavy traffic jam was experienced at Attappadi ghat road as a trailer lorry overturned at the seventh bend and another lorry got stuck at the eighth bend. The traffic through the road was affected for almost 12 hours. The lorries got trapped in the ghat around 12 am on Wednesday. On the next day, a crane was brought from Mannarkkad to clear the lorries and thereby partially restored the traffic on the ghat road.
Both the lorries were heading to Erode from Mangalauru with a load of coils used in electric motors. As the drivers were new to this route, they used Google Map to find the path. The lorries were supposed to go through Palakkad- Walayar route. But the drivers who reached Nellipuzha spotted the Attapadi route and resorted to this path.
The lorries crossed Aanamooli check post to reach the ghat road. Mannarkkad DFO Surjith said that the forest department has not received any guidelines regarding the kind of vehicles which should be permitted through the ghat road.
