Tigresses to step to female beats this Pulikali
Thrissur: The final preparations of Pulikali, which is performed on the day of fourth Onam, is almost done. It is known this year, a team of female ‘tigers’ from Kottappuram, will perform to the musical beats played by female musicians.
It is expected that these tigers and musicians will reach Thrissur by Wednesday evening. There will be 12 female tigers in the group with 30 female musicians.
These tigresses come from different parts of Kerala. From students to retired teachers performing, Kottapuram is the only group with tigresses this year.
As a part of the Pulikali, an exhibition was organized at the Banerji Club showcasing the adornments of Pulikali performers.
In Pulikali, performers painted like tigers and hunters in bright yellow, red, and black dance to the beats of instruments like Udukku and Thakil. Literal meaning of Pulikali is the 'play of the tigers' hence the performance revolves around the theme of tiger hunting.
On Thursday evening, these tigers will take on the road.
