Thirunelli (Wayanad): What one will do when a tiger tried to trespass into the house in the middle of night? Normally, people will freak out, but Thirunelli native Salitha and her nephew Mrudun bravely acted and had a narrow escape the other day.
The shocking incident took place on Tuesday night. Salitha (42) and her sister's son Mrudun (22) have been living in a house near police station here. They started hearing strange noise from outside by 11 at night the other day. Though they looked outside, nothing could be seen. So, they came inside and slept again.
After half an hour, they woke up hearing another sound and found the front door being opened by somebody. Mrudun found a tiger trying to enter inside through the door. Instantly, he threw his phone at the tiger and shut the door. Salitha also came running on hearing the noise.
Both of them pushed the door from inside. The tiger tried to forcefully open the door for some time and later withdrew slowly. They said that they managed to handle the situation with presence of mind gained at that moment and will never forget the incident.
The house had a plywood door in the front. As the lock was loosened in the attack of the tiger, it could be opened by the animal. The front portion of the door had damages. The pet dog that was tied inside the house had barked aloud when the tiger came, Salitha said.
After the tiger returned from the area, they informed ward member P N Hareendran and forest officials. The forest guards arrived at the place at night itself. Thirnelli deputy range officer M V Jayaprasad said that they have set up CCTV camera in the place and intensified night patrolling.
