Thiruvananthapuram: A tiger brought to Thiruvananthapuram zoo from Wayanad has died. The tiger named Amar died on Saturday by 9 in the morning.
The big cat was captured by forest authorities from near Chimbayam colony at Bathery in Wayanad on March 25. It was brought to the zoo with serious injuries.
The tiger had reportedly attacked the forest guards and killed pet animals in Chimbayam area. The condition of the 13-year-old tiger was very critical when it was brought to the zoo.
The animal had sustained injuries on its front leg, lost sight of the left eye and its teeth had fallen off. The tiger was under treatment in the hospital in the zoo. Its condition had improved slightly, but worsened last week.
According to the post-mortem report, the tiger died of heart attack. Chief Wildlife Warden Surendrakumar and team conducted autopsy and buried the carcass in the zoo compound on Saturday by 6.30 pm.
