Thrissur man develops machine to peel tender coconut, receives Rs 25 lakh from centre
Thrissur: KC Sijoy, a native of Kanjani here, has developed an automatic tender coconut peeling machine as a major contribution to help the tender coconut sellers. For this innovative technology, he received Rs 25 lakh from the centre as aid.
The small machine will help peel the tender coconuts in an attractive shape. Sijoy claimed that his machine will complete peeling the tender coconut within 40 seconds. Even after peeling the tender coconut, we can store it without any damage.
After examining the scope of the automatic tender coconut peeling machine, Sijoy also obtained the patent for the machine.
Sijoy found time to discover the machine after facing a setback in life as an expat. After returning home, Sijoy was in deep depression.
Once, he decided to use the abandoned workshop close to his house in Kanjani. From this workshop, he got the idea to develop a machine to peel tender coconut.
Sijoy who completed tool and die making course from NTTF in Thalassery developed the machine exploring his skills in the field.
As the demand for tender coconut increased, Sijoy started to sell the tender coconut which got a new look from his machine. At first, he took the order from nearby supermarkets.
Later, many people approached him to purchase his tender coconut for export. Compared to other tender coconuts, tender coconut peeled with the machine are found to be easy to pack. Hence, the sellers can export 20 peeled tender coconut in place of 10 unpeeled tender coconut.
“The machine removes the tender coconut peel as thin slices. So we can use it as cattle feed,” said Sijoy.
Sijoy was part of the Agri-Business Incubator Agripreneurship Orientation Programme of Kerala Agriculture University. The central government granted Rs 25 lakh to three best entrepreneurs selected from the programme.
