This robot checks temperature of voters, serves sanitizer at polling booth in Thrikkakara
Kochi: Voters who reached Thrikkakara community hall to cast their vote were surprised to see a robot outside the polling station. The district authority had arranged the robot here to check the temperature of the voters and serve sanitizer to all.
The robot named Sayabot completes the temperature examination within one minute.
At first, the Sayabot will ask the voters to focus on its left hand. Following this, the robot will raise its hand and check the temperature of the voter through the thermal scanner installed on its hand. Later, it will dispense sanitizer to the voter.
After this procedure, the robot will announce that the screening of the voter is completed and welcome the voter to the booth. Through this procedure, Sayabot confirms COVID-19 protocol is strictly observed in the polling booth.
If voters arrive at the booth without wearing the mask properly, the robot will alert them to wear it properly. Directions on social distancing also will be issued. If Sayabot detects high body temperature on any voter, the officials will be alerted to make arrangements for special voting.
District Collector S Suhas has informed that the robot was placed outside the booth to strictly follow the COVID-19 protocol. “The district is witnessing massive turnout in polling. People are arriving at the booths by wearing the mask and following COVID-19 protocol,” the Collector said while visiting Thrikkakara community hall.
Kalamassery based ASIMOV robotics has developed Sayabot. “The robot was modified in this way within two days. We hope that the service of Sayabot will be helpful for the district authority in the polls,” said ASIMOV Robotics CEO Jayakrishnan.
