This man makes sanitizer dispenser using bamboo to fight COVID in eco-friendly way
Kalpetta (Wayanad): When the COVID times gave only hardship to handicraft makers, Arimula native M R Vijesh made it a golden opportunity. He is introducing automatic sanitizer dispenser using bamboo. The users only need to stretch their palms to get the sanitizer. The bamboo-made automatic sanitizer dispenser costs Rs 2200.
Vijesh is planning to reduce the making cost and introduce it in the market soon. “COVID crisis was challenging. Bamboo products were sold through fairs. Now we are trying to overcome the losses through online sale and product diversification,” Vijesh said.
His friend P R Sajith is providing technical assistance. The dispenser can be charged using mobile charger. Its battery lasts for upto 4 hours. Vijesh has been active with bamboo products making through his firm ‘Soura Art and Craft’ for the last 2 years.
Handicrafts, decorative pieces, paintings in bamboo, household articles like spoons, bottles and spatula, office stationery are the major products made of bamboo. Also they are giving training to make the bamboo products.
Vijesh said that they face scarcity of raw materials. He received an order via online for 2000 bottles of same size. However, bamboos of same size are required to make bottles of same size. As this is not available, it is not practical to make the products of similar size.
However, Vijesh has initiated bamboo cultivation to overcome this problem. He planted different types of bamboo trees on his compound. If the online market turns more active, the enterprise will be more successful and can provide employment to more people, he said.
