This man collects over 10,000 plastic bottles during morning walk
Kozhikode: Rajan, a native of Chengottukkavu here started morning walk as advised by his doctor after diagnosing a minor cardiac problem. Following this, he started to walk daily morning from January. But this new habit changed his life when he started to collect the plastic bottles which irritated him during the walk.
Within two months, this humanitarian collected over 10,000 plastic bottles. All these bottles are being kept at the land close to his house near Gulf Road in Chengottukkavu.
Varieties of bottles are found in Rajan’s collection. When most of us drink and throw the bottles, we don’t think that we are polluting the environment occupied by a huge number of creatures. But being an environmentalist, Rajan has been continuing to pick the plastic bottles from public places.
He is not bothered about the negative comments while engaged in the noble mission.
“ Many people laughed at me while clearing the bottles from the public places. But such negative reactions never discouraged me,” he said.
“I Just want to make the people aware of their mistake. I am not going to build a bungalow by collecting the bottles. I want to install two waste bins in my village after selling the bottles. If the money is not sufficient, I am ready to contribute. But the people should abstain from throwing plastic on road,” he added.
Even his relatives insulted him for collecting the bottles. But his family including children supported him as his strength in the mission.
His elder son who is also an NSS volunteer in college also accompanied him to segregate the bottles.
“ I collected these bottles in two wards of my panchayat. If I collect bottles from all wards, I would get the plastic waste which will engulf the entire panchayat,” said Rajan.
‘I’m really disappointed as nobody is taking the effort to curb the plastic pollution which triggers threat to the human beings,” he pointed out.
