This little shed atop Athirappilly Waterfalls stands strong beating hostile weather
Athirappilly: A small makeshift shed set up on top of Athirappilly Waterfalls several years back has gained a kind of celebrity stature on social media platforms recently as it survived the extreme weather conditions. Athirappilly waterfalls became ferocious over the past few days due to the heavy rainfall experienced in various parts of Kerala. But the shed still stands strong, paying no heed to whatever that comes its way.
The memers on social media found this little shed a great source of inspiration. Many funny memes have come recently revolving around this shed. The foresters and members of Vana Samrakshana Samithi said that many people are calling them up to know the secret behind the shed’s strength.
Vana Samrakshana Samithi had employed a few members to prevent the accidents as the number of tourists increased rapidly. The shed was installed on the rocks for these members to stay in and rest many years ago. The Vana Samrakshana Samithi members said that the shed was set up by fixing wooden pillars almost 2.5 feet deep into the crevices between rocks. The shed has ten pillars. Three out of these have been inserted deep between the rocks.
The shed had gone completely under water in the flood in 2018. The shed did not have any major problems even after it was hit by a huge floating log. A few repair works were done after the flood and few of its legs were fixed up using concrete. The new shed was constructed under the supervision of Vana Samrakshana Samith President P K Sahajan, P T Shaju, K M Surendran, C V Rajan and M P Sivanunni.
