The journey of Joseph Mundassery’s iconic Ambassador car
Thrissur: Literary critic and former education minister Joseph Mundassery's iconic 1970 model Ambassador car was sold to their neighbour CL Jose, a famous drama playwright writer, after his death.
Mundassery's wife Catherina had sold the car fearing rampant theft in the region. When she informed the matter to Jose, he conveyed his willingness to buy. Jospeh’s son Thomas was more than happy to give it to Jose. Because the car will be there in the neighbourhood which is just 50 metres away in Thrissur’s East Fort. As a result, he agreed to sell the car for Rs 34,000. Rs 1,000 was further deducted as the car battery was damaged and 1970 model KL R 9272 was sold.
Joseph Mundassery had used the car for 14 years. Before that he used to travel in his son Jose Mundassery’s car. Joseph decided to buy the car as Jose had a busy schedule. Interestingly, after 27 long years, Jose Mundassery, who resides in USA, got interested in the car and bought it back for Rs 75,000 from CL Jose.
