Thamarassery Ghat road to be lit up with solar lights soon
Thamarassery: Even during dark, the hairpin bends at the Thamarassery Ghat road, will be shining bright from now on. Kozhikode district panchayat has decided to set up solar paneled lights in the ghat road on the Kozhikode-Kollegal national highway. The project worth Rs 13 crore has been approved by the panchayat planning committee.
At least 25 solar lights will be set up in different spots in the ghat, District Panchayat President Babu Parassery told Mathrubhumi. Solar panel, battery and lamp will be fixed on a high mast and the ghat will be lit the whole night. A light, solar panel, mast and battery together costs Rs 50,000, said district panchayat secretary P. D. Philip.
The Skill Development Centre under the district panchayat or the government agency Keltron can take over the project. However, it has not been finalized. There is another plan to broaden the hairpin bends on the road. The lights will be set up considering the renovation of roads as well.
The panchayat also plans to set up CCTV cameras in the ghat in order to ensure security. Rs 58 lakh is estimated for this project. The panchayat authorities also have another plan to operate cameras with solar energy.
