Elanadu: In a bizarre incident, people who attended a wedding here in Thrissur district were chased away by honey bees. It was during a wedding in Thendankaav that the local bees turned out to be villains, stinging 40 people, including the bride and groom.
The incident took place at Elanadu, Narakode house, Mani’s daughter – Renju and Palakkad, Konnencherry native – Girish’s wedding. Around 9:30 in the morning, the thaalikettu ceremony got over and as the people stepped out to move to the wedding mandap, they came across the bee hive on the banyan tree on the temple grounds.
Most people were stung on their faces and necks. Many were lucky and avoided the bee stings by getting into their cars and rolling up the windows. The people who got stung by the bees sought treatment in private hospitals and other health centres. Muralidharan (59), bride’s father Mani (48) and Peechi native Lakshmi were severely affected by the bee attack. Mani is being treated at the Thrissur medical college and Lakshmi at the government hospital in Chelakkara.
