Stationary car starts, runs, catches fire by itself in Kakkanad
Kakkanad: In a bizarre incident, a car stationed inside the porch of a house at Unichira started and drove onto the road by itself and caught fire here on Saturday early morning. The police have registered a case.
The incident took place at a house on the Edappally-Pookkattupadi road. The owner had parked his Maruti Swift car in the porch.
However, around 4 am, the car’s engine started by itself and the vehicle started moving. The car then smashed the gates open, entered the road and crossed over to the other side. It caught fire and came to a halt after hitting the concrete slab on the other side of the road. The hand brakes were engaged but it did little to stop the vehicle.
On hearing the noise, the car owner and family members woke up thinking that robbers were trying to steal their car. But, they were shocked to see the vehicle on the road on fire.
There is a slope from the porch to the road which aided in the car moving towards the gate and the road. Once the car hit the gate, it opened and the car moved onto the road.
The owner said the car’s switch had developed a problem and that short circuit could have resulted in the fire. Further investigation is on.
