Sreenivasan set to open organic vegetable outlet
Kochi: The vegetable garden of actor Sreenivasan is also a school. It is free of pesticides and it motivates people too.
The actor, who showed all of us that anyone can grow pesticide-free vegetables if they really want, is all set to open an organic vegetable stall at Kandanad in Ernakulam district. The Udayamperoor Jaiva Karshaka Samithi, which Sreenivasan is leading, and Agriculture Officer Lissymol J. Vadakkoott will associate with him in the venture.
Abi M. Rajan and Manu Philip of the Jaiva Karshaka Samithi are giving him all support.
In view of Onam, they have taken up vegetable farming on a large scale at Kandanad.
The Samithi aims to encourage people to produce quality products and market them besides making people realise the significance of farming.
Actor Aju Varghese will inaugurate the organic vegetable stall at 11 am on August 19.
Currently, the Samithi has 26 members. More members will be added after receiving a fee of Rs 1,000 from them. Those growing pesticide-free vegetables can sell their products through the stall. The only condition is that the products should be fully organic. The members can also buy vegetables from the stall; there are plans to offer discounts.
The vegetables will be tested to find out whether they were produced using organic methods. If the result is negative, those farmers will be removed from the Samithi.
'Our goal is not to make profit. But everyone should get the benefit without suffering loss,' says Sreenivasan.
