Selfie with elephant herd; narrow escape for tourist at Athirapally
Athirapally: A tourist visiting the Vachumaram forest area here had an awfully close shave after a herd of elephants charged at him while trying to take a selfie with them in the background.
The incident happened on Anamalai road at Vachumaram forest area. A group of people stopped their vehicles and ventured out to take pictures as they noticed a wild elephant herd.
One among them moved dangerously close to the animals to take a selfie. Though other people on the road shouted and warned against getting close, he did not pay heed.
The elephants on seeing the youth coming close to them, charged at him. He, however, managed to escape. Seeing the elephants, others too fled the spot.
Vazhachal DFO N Rajesh said the Forest Department is planning to register a case against the tourists. The numbers of their vehicles have been collected from the Check Post. The Forest office has also received the visuals of the incident from another person.
