School students invent device to curb drunken driving
Pazhayannur: M H Abhiram and Habib Ahmed, both students of Pazhayannur Government School have developed a device to curb drunken driving. These youngsters have proved their calibre by presenting a project on alcohol sensing car in the 'Marathon 2020' competition conducted by Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) at the national level.
Abhiram is in class 7 and Habib is in class 10. They both developed a technology that makes it impossible to start a vehicle if the driver is drunk. The device was made using sensors, motors and a buzzer. The engine will turn off as soon as alcohol is detected and a long beep sound can be heard.
The Atal Innovation Mission was conceived by the Central Government to enhance students' interest and opportunities in the science and technology field. Both were trained through the Atal Tinkering Lab at Pazhayannur High School.
