
Kavalam (Alappuzha): Anamika never treats the dry parts of areca nut palm or coconut tree as waste. When this Class 8 student finds waste materials, she turns them into beautiful decorative pieces. During the vacation, she has created quite a number of handicrafts using the materials collected from surroundings.
Daughter of Kavalam native Venugopal and Priya, Anamika is a student of Little Flower School in Kavalam. She learnt the art of making creative objects from waste materials from YouTube. Clam shell, newspaper, glass bottles, jeans and similar useless materials are also used for making handicrafts.
The dry part of areca nut palm is soaked in water and the white layer inside it is used for making flowers and other decorative items. Similarly, parts of coconut tree also is treated before making craftworks. Carpet and footwear are made from old jeans. Anamika proved that waste materials can be reused in a creative way.
