Kannur: A team of 18 tourists from Russia reached Kannur to learn and teach yoga. They are staying in ‘Seashell’ homestay at Aadikadalayi for the last five days.

They have been enjoying their trip with the taste of local food, festivals in temples and the captivating beauty of the sea here.

“Such homestays are not common in Russia. Tourists have to depend on luxury hotels there. It is amazing to spend the days here by tasting the food here and taking a bath in the sea. We love to watch the grand festivals in temples and purchase the rural products from the streets here,” said Inka, a Russian tourist.

Inka has made frequent visits to India as part of studying yoga. She has studied yoga at Rishikesh. Finally, she made a career with yoga. She is the team leader of the tourists who have reached Kannur to study Yoga.

Inka has introduced a Yoga learning programme in Kerala by inviting applications from people in Russia. She has received many applications and selected the best ones from it.

She was searching for homestays in various parts of Kerala. And finally she selected Sea Shell homestay at Kannur and reached here with her students to explore yoga in god’s own country.

According to her it is a peaceful spot and they are having a soothing experience here.

Inka and her team practice yoga in the morning and evening at the homestay. After taking a bath in the sea, they enjoy the taste of Kerala cuisines in the dining table.

Inka said that she is receiving numerous applications from Russia to study yoga in Kannur.

Safiya, a student from Moscow is also surprised to explore the facilities in the homestay. It is reported that over 40 homestays are operating at Aadikadalayi, Thottada and Keezhunna.

“Tourists would not prefer luxury hotels after living in busy cities. They will enjoy homestays in rural areas by spending time with the people here and learning the recipes to cook the local food. Compared to hotels, homestays are more affordable,” said a tourist here.

Sea Shell homestay owner Harris said that homestay will be a good business with the launch of Kannur airport. He added that government should cooperate to develop homestay tourism in Kerala.
