Rs 1.4 cr to renovate Vettikottuchal tourism project
Charummoodu (Alappuzha): The Tourism Project in Vettikottuchal has been granted Rs 1.4 crore by various administrative bodies, informed R. Rajesh MLA. Of the total amount, Rs 1 crore is granted by tourism department, Rs 40 lakh by local bodies (Rs 25 lakh by Alappuzha district panchayat, Rs 10 lakh by block panchayat and Rs 5 lakh by Chunakkara gram panchayat).
Vettikottuchal is the major source of water in Onattukara. The possibilities of tourism and the pathetic condition of the water body after it was turned into a waste dumping station, was reported by ‘Mathrubhumi’. In the initial phase of the project, construction and renovation of a protection wall of the water reservoir are planned. The works of the tourism department will be completed in the second phase. The project is prepared by Habitat. A technical committee is in-charge of the supervision.
Refreshing centre, walkway around the reservoir, children’s park, tourism information centre, toilet block and cycling are included in the project. MLA, local body representatives and tourism department officials visited Vettikottuchal and prepared the project. Chunakkara gram panchayat will be in-charge of the project, once it is completed. The responsibilities of the refreshing centre will be entrusted with Kudumbasree units, said Chunakkara gram panchayat president Santha Gopalakrishnan and vice president Suresh Pulari.
