Kundara: A python which was captured and kept in a cage on top of a house was handed over to the Forest Department officials here on Saturday. Anish, 28, from Cherumpuzha has been keeping the python in a cage at his friend’s rented place nearby. The python was kept in a plastic cage on the terrace of the house.

Anish intimated the news to the Kundara police inspector Jayakumar on Saturday. Anish is a snake catcher and is a regular in catching poisonous snakes and handing it over to the forest officials.

Anish was told about the python which was seen trapped in a net near Puthur. On getting information, he rushed to the place and rescued it.

Anish told police that the snake was injured as it was entangled in the net and was being treated. Hence it was put inside a plastic cage. Anish treated the snake with turmeric powder smeared on the injured parts. He had also fed the python with hens.

On getting information, Elamballur grama panchayat president Sujata Mohan and vice president Jalaja Gopan reached the spot to oversee the situation. The forest officials too reached the place by 7 pm and took the python away.

The deputy Range officer C Murali stated that a case would be booked against Anish for keeping the species under his custody for such a long time.
