Niranam (Pathanamthitta): When the trap was set up in Areethodu canal to catch fish, the owner never thought something ‘heavy’ would be caught in it. It was a large python which got trapped in it instead of fish.
The fish trap fixed near Pallippalam in Niranam was pulled out of the water on Thursday morning and it felt too heavy. The python was found when the trap was dragged to the shore expecting a large fish. The owner ran away in shock to see the giant python caught in the trap.
Later, Chakkulam native Prajeesh arrived to free the python from the trap. The python was handed over to the forest guards who arrived from Pathanamthitta.
Areethodu canal remains filled with water weeds and moss. The locals said that pythons were trapped in the same canal three times in the past.
