Private bus staff start online mango sales to survive during lockdown in Palakkad
Palakkad: During the COVID lockdown, staff of a private bus that is parked on the roadside sell upto 350 kilograms of mangoes via online every day. The bus employees are of the opinion that having something is better than nothing, and they manage to survive during the lockdown through mango sales.
The staff of 'Ithihas' bus group which conduct service in Palakkad town started the new venture after Vishu. They brought mangoes from Muthalamada and sell them via online. Within a few days, the mango sale became a hit. Now they are planning to start an online marketing company in the name Farmers Agro Products for selling vegetables, honey, coconut oil and other essential items.
As the bus services were stopped, it was bus owner Sajeev Thomas who suggested the new idea. Eight employees including managers Jithu Das and Anil Kumar are the working force behind the venture. Though less than the profit earned from bus service, the mango sales gives them a decent amount.
About 350 kilograms of ten varieties of mangoes including Sindoori and Imam Pasand are sold every day. The bus parked at Koppam in Kalmandapam bypass is the godown for storing mangoes. They pack mangoes in boxes before selling and deliver at households as per the orders received via online.
