Peacock Appu, the star of Mannacherry
Alappuzha: Mannacherry natives are excited to have a special member in their village. It is a peacock named Appu. Everyone here loves to watch the bird which flies in the village with its beautiful feathers.
Appu took birth in the poultry farm of Prakash Shenoy at Mannacherry. Prakash Shenoy is a popular farmer here who has won the best dairy farmer award of the state government in 2014.
The peacock took birth in Shenoy's farm when he hatched eggs of hen in his farm. Four years back, he accidently placed a peacock egg with the hen eggs. At first Shenoy and his family thought it was an ornamental chicken. But surprising the family and natives identified it as a peacock after sometime.
Now, Appu is a favourite for all villagers. He rushes to the person who calls him by name. He used to roam around the village after having a meal with rice and curd from Shenoy’s house.
Appu is a regular visitor at Manakkal Devil temple. Devotees and staff of the temple are curious to watch the peacock and its activities. They used to feed fruits to Appu.
After visiting the temple, Appu flies to the nearest mosque at Kunnappally and Thrikkai Siva temple.
The natives are well aware of the route and regular spots where Appu frequents. Like the new generation, Appu is a crazy selfie lover, says the natives.
Appu always poses for a selfie with the youth here. Completing his regular tour, Appu reaches Shenoy’s home in the evening on time every day.
The children at Mannacherry is all set to celebrate the summer holidays with their favourite Appu.
