Peacock Appu’s demise shocks village
Alappuzha: Leaving the villagers in tears, Appu, the peacock which was the favourite of all in Mannancherry village, died here on Monday. On Sunday, the male peacock was hit by a bike while crossing the road near Manakkal temple. But as Appu did not suffer any severe injury, only first aid was administered to it.
Shocking all, Appu was found dead at the ‘Sarppakkavu’ (abode of snakes) near the temple on Monday evening.
The peacock took birth in Prakash Shenoy's poultry farm when he hatched eggs of hen. Four years back, he accidently placed a peacock egg with the hen eggs. At first Shenoy and his family thought it was an ornamental chicken. But surprising all, it was identified as a peacock after sometime.
Appu became favourite of all in the village within a short time. It used to rush to the person who calls him by name. After having a meal with rice and curd from Shenoy’s house, Appu loved to roam around the village.
Hence, the villagers are in grief after Appu’s death. Adults and children rushed to the temple to have a glance of their dearest Appu for the last time.
Forest department officials arrived the spot and buried the peacock after post-mortem.
