Parassala Sivasankaran gets a makeover with trimmed tusks
Parassala: Parassala Sivasankaran, the elephant at the Parassala Mahadeva temple under Travancore Devaswom Board, was struggling with his overgrown tusks. Now, it had a makeover after his tusks were trimmed finely.
On Thursday around 10 am, the elephant’s tusks was trimmed in the presence of Devaswom board and forest department officials.
Devaswom veterinary doctor and veterinary surgeon of forest department examined the elephant and confirmed its healthy. The trimming of tusks started after the doctors granted permission.
The trimming of the tusks took over 5 hours.
It was 7 years ago Sivasankaran’s tusk got trimmed for last time. Though the temple authority has taken action to get its tusk trimmed for the last three years, permission was granted only recently.
If the tusks are overgrown, the elephants will find it difficult to consume food. Hence, the tusks of captive elephants are trimmed occasionally.
